What to Expect When Getting a Sports Physical at Ouch Urgent Care

In many cases, schools and sports leagues have their own sports physical form to be filled out by a doctor. It’s important to bring that form with you to our urgent care clinic because your program may have specific requirements for participation. Generally, a sports physical at our walk-in clinic will include:

• Asking about the patient’s medical history and any ongoing health conditions
• Recording height, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate
• Evaluating heart and lung function
• Checking the ears, nose, and throat
• Evaluating posture and joints as well as body strength and flexibility

Physical exams also include a vision test, so if you wear glasses or contact lenses, you’ll want to have them with you when you come to our urgent care clinic.

Based on the results of the exam, the doctor may sign the sports physical form, thus indicating medical clearance for you or your child to fully participate in the athletic activity. In some cases, you may need a follow-up exam or the doctor may conditionally approve your participation. For example, you may need to perform special stretching exercises before joining your teammates for practice or competition.
